Howdy! I’m Rachel and I write a short weekly email about the small delights I find in my hometown of Austin, TX. Join us, if you’d like!
How are you doing these days? I hope you had a great two weeks! I got sick for the second time in a couple of months and I’m now realizing that I’m just suffering from very bad allergies. I got the proper meds and am back to it!
Per usual, I have a couple of cute Austin things for ya:
And by Austin I also mean San Antonio, because we went last week and saw so many great things, including this cute bathroom! That tile!
We stayed overnight in San Antonio for Mother’s Day and had a lovely time. The weather wasn’t hot-hot yet, so we did the zoo and a few strolls along the Riverwalk. Gosh it’s cool there! We saw architectural details and art around practically every corner.
Boy did we enjoy some food! Have you been to Pullman Market? It’s a grocery store at The Pearl that is maybe heaven. This was the bakery. You better believe we had several of these croissants. That strawberry one was divine.
We also ate at:
Fire and Farro: sharable pasta, pizza and salads. Everything was very tasty.
Oro Bianco: which is not in San Antonio (tricked ya) but in Blanco on the way home to Austin if you take the scenic route to avoid I-35, which I can’t recommend enough. They serve the creamiest gelato and it’s made from water buffalo milk!
I am not qualified to make recommendations about San Antonio cuisine, but for what it’s worth, our favorite San Antonio restaurant is Cured, which is very meat-focused and yes, you should get the steak.
Back in Austin, look at these cute little americanos from Better Half. These are perhaps the only paper straws that don’t disintegrate in 30 seconds, so I will allow them.
And! I’ve been enjoying this lip balm! Have you tried it? It’s an Austin company! I found mine at Tiny Grocer.

One more thing: I saw Friendship at Alamo and it was too good. I laughed the whole time. Have you seen any great movies lately? I also loved Sinners!
Sending you many good wishes for a wonderful week. I hope you get in a good swim or have a delicious ice cream or some such!
xo

My son just graduated from Trinity in San Antonio and I will miss going down there from Austin all the time. IMHO the Pearl is THE BEST THING EVER. Hotel Emma and every single restaurant has blown my mind (Pullman Market is awesome). Full Goods Diner brunch was the best ever.
