Hi everyone!
What are you up to this week? It feels like we have finally, finally, conquered the longest summer and I am just giddy about it. I’ve celebrated with many a walk and many a patio meal. I hope you’re also cruising around town and soaking up some rays.
Here are some cute Austin things for you:
But have you tried swimming in November
Many years ago my friend Anna told me we should go to Barton Springs in November. I’m an avid Barton Springs swimmer but I thought this idea was a bridge too far. However! I was wrong! We went to Barton Springs on a sunny November day with our toddlers and had the best time.
Here are the pros:
-it’s way less crowded.
-it’s free! Barton Springs doesn’t charge admission until March. (It’s also free before 8am every day.)
-if you’re feeling bummed about it being 80 degrees in November, this will cheer you right up.
Yes, it’s cold. But if it’s sunny, you can get out and sun yourself on a towel and maybe read a good book and you’ll thank me later.
Have you seen this armadillo
The city makes these bags of compost (you can get them at Lowe’s, Home Depot, nurseries, etc.) and idk who designed the bag but they deserve some sort of award.
Look how great
I was walking along 2nd street this morning and saw this happy sight: Toy Joy ready for the holidays! I miss the original Toy Joy on the drag but it’s still on my regular route for gift shopping and/or perusing.
Here’s more local spots that are great for gift shopping! If you’ve been here for a while these are all kind of *duh* but just in case you don’t know them or like to be reminded:
BookPeople and First Light Books (because books are my favorite gift)
Take Heart and The Paper Craft Pantry (on the East side)
Toy Joy and Terra Toys (for kids)
Big Top Candy Shop (for stocking stuffers)
End of an Ear and Waterloo Records (for music)
Give me your local gift shopping recs, please!
Hope your week is rootin’ tootin’!
xo
